Chef Henrie Bistro & Café

After a great weekend camping, my mother, father, wife and I happened to drive right by Henrie's and my father decided to turn us right around for a late lunch. The beer was cold, the food was amazing, and the staff were very friendly. They even brought out some cold water to the patio for my dog.

We have been to Henri's many times and it is excellent every single time. Henri is a fabulous chef and a master in the kitchen. A family run restaurant with very good and friendly service. We recommend it to everyone we know when they will be in the Mactier area. Greg Hawkins

Second time here - food was still amazing but service needed a hand this time - waitress assuming what sides we all wanted and not clearing the dishes - hopefully they can do better.

If you are traveling in the area this resteraunt is a must. Short drive off the 400 and 5 minunt from a beautiful local beach. Now onto the food, our entire family loved what they got. Everything was perfectly prepared and well portioned. The service was excellent. The tast was superb. Everyone's plate was cleared by the end of the meal, which is a rarity in our family. Don't miss out on this hidden muskoka gem.

Wow is all I can say! This is the most delicious food I've ever eaten! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience from your friendly staff, to the ambiance to the incredible food. We were so stuffed we decided to bring dessert home. Can't wait to come back many times!

Service: the service was great. Very polite and attentive servers, relatively quick service. One little problem, please serve your beer in a glass and not in a water glass. I had a Guinness, came in a can (I've been told they only have can and I was fine with that) but no glass. When I asked for a glass, they brought a big water glass, the same on they serve water or pop. Please fix this guys. Food: awesome schnitzel, fries and almost everything but the wings, they were hmm how to say, tasting too chicken meaty rather than a good blend of sauce, meat and frying. If this is your thing, awesome, go for it but I don't think I would order wings here again. Schnitzel on a kaiser bun was great also. Price: as expected, not low, not high. I would say just right. Ambiance: interior great, patio is right by the road, cars parked right infornt of you. But, for me the service and food makes me want to come here rather than the places by the water. So... I am ok with the patio being on the parking lot. Verdict: I would definitely recommend and come again.

Hands down the best Schnitzels in the North. Chef Henri is a golden spoon chef from Austrian culinary school. As a community we are blessed by his talents. Restaurant is family run and his Mom is the sweetest host I think in the area. Great quality food, reasonable prices and worth the drive to Mactier. I drive an hour each way on Fridays to come for the best Cordon Bleu meal.

We visited Chef Henrie Bistro & Cafe for the first time a few weeks ago. It is a charming restaurant, hidden in a non-descript plaza in MacTier. The restaurant has a fine dining but casual vibe. There is a lovely patio with several large tables as well as indoor dining with white table cloths, a fire place and large windows overlooking the patio. The staff are very friendly and attentive, especially Chef Henrie’s parents who are eager and proud to share the story of how their son became such an excellent chef. The first visit for my family was for lunch on a Sunday. We enjoyed traditional European Wiener Schnitzel sandwiches with salad and fried chicken sandwiches with potato wedges. We were warned that the chicken does take a longer time to cook as everything is made from scratch and the chicken is large. When the food arrived, it was a feast for the eyes and stomach. The chicken sandwich was enormous and heavy, it was big enough to share and it came with a generous portion of seasoned, hand made potato wedges. The chicken was juicy inside and the breading was crispy and tasty. The schnitzel sandwich was just as I like it, perfect, traditional breading, thin and tasty as it should be. The salad was a generous portion of spring mix with a delicate creamy dressing accompanied by a small serving of cucumber salad. We enjoyed our lunch so much that we made reservations to visit again for dinner the following weekend. We decided to bring our friends along for dinner the following weekend and we were able to enjoy their more extensive dinner menu. We wanted to try many dishes so we all ordered different options and we shared. We enjoyed the Wiener schnitzel so much before that we decided to order a dinner portion which was huge! It was bigger than the dinner plate! We also ordered Linguini Bolognese, Eggplant parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, beef stroganoff. Every dish was absolutely delicious and very fresh. The sous chef was not there that day but Chef Henrie managed to get everything out in a reasonable time, without sacrificing any quality. The restaurant was packed with families enjoying a warm, and happy environment. We also ordered desserts: Carrot cake, chocolate cake, Bundt cake, apple strudel, cheese cake and ice cream. We devoured the desserts and they were on the same caliber as the meal. We had so much food that there was plenty to bring home and we all had lunch from the leftovers the next day. When the bill came, we were surprised by the unusually reasonable prices of everything. This restaurant is a must visit if you’re anywhere near MacTier and it is very close to Port Carling and Bala.
