★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Now screening out of the Alma Duncan Salon at the Ottawa Art Gallery, the Canadian Film Institute (an independent, not-for-profit, charitable organization) is an Ottawa treasure. With screenings and Festivals throughout the year, the CFI serves up great Canadian independent film, international animation, and films from the numerous diasporas within Canada. The Canadian Masters series has brought award-winning filmmakers like Atom Egoyan, Guy Madden, Alanis Obomsawin, and Theodore Ushev to speak with Ottawa audiences, and there are more planned for the future.
This organization brings films to the screen that you won't see anywhere else in Ottawa, and offers a convivial and social environment where cinephiles can meet and discuss their experiences at the beautiful new Jackson Bar and Café.
Foreign/French language films are screened with English subtitles. Every effort is made to provide print information in both official languages, even though the organization not mandated to do so.
Definitely worth checking out.l
