About Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter
The Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter is focused on ending family violence and abuse in the lives of women, children, youth and men. Taking a Stand Against Family Violence in the community since 1974, the agency has helped over 260,000 Calgarians build safe lives and healthy relationships. We are on the front lines to provide hope and support to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
Though the Emergency Shelter is the cornerstone of the organization, it is “More than a Shelter”, serving approximately 15,000 clients each year through a number of innovative safety, healing and prevention programs.
As a registered charity, we are very thankful for the generosity of Calgarians, with nearly 50 per cent of our funding coming from non-government or private funding sources.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I used this service 12 years ago and will never forget the positive support I received by one individual in this program in and out of the shelter. Heads up though if you have kids, the "safe exit" strategy doesn't exists as 12 years later I have never gotten away from the abuse I moved away from in my now co-parenting arrangement. I have been abused for 12 years and counting and while CPS and family law motto is that what happens to the mother doesn't affect the child we are now seeing the evidence that is the opposite of true and there is no where to turn. Document every abuse instance in an email to yourself, better than here say

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great support for adults who need assistance. However, they have very limited resources for children and teens, regarding counselling, if any at all. It’s very unfortunate, as some situations will affect the children more than their parent.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ They gave me and my children shelter when I ran from domestic violence. The rooms were well furnished and beautiful. I felt very comfortable. The food was good. All the counselors were very good. And my community counselor, Tracy was exceptional. I gained my self esteem and was able to face my abuser with her help. Thank you to these great people.
