CFIS Land Acknowledgement: We respectfully acknowledge that our school sits on Treaty 7 territory, and that the people of the Blackfoot Confederacy — including the Siksiká, Piikáni, Káinai First Nations, the Tsuut’ina First Nation, Métis Nation of Alberta Region 3, and the Stoney Nakoda including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations, were the caretakers of the land where we now learn and play. Calgary French & International School is situated on Aiss ka pooma, a traditional Blackfoot name meaning Medicine Hill, and known today as Paskapoo Slopes. The buffalo that roamed this traditional hunting ground provided food, shelter and clothing to its inhabitants. This land continues to be a place where plants, animals, rocks, water, air and earth, people and all things tangible and intangible exist. At CFIS, in the heart of Aiss ka pooma, we have an ongoing responsibility to protect, learn about and honour the land. We thank its traditional caretakers and knowledge keepers.

CFIS has been a fantastic school for our family. We have 2 children at the school and they are thriving. The learning environment is warm and welcoming and always adapting to a relevant curriculum.

Out of all the International schools I’ve been to, this has easily been the least international. Mostly rich white Albertan parents who like the idea of an “International French” education for their kids, which the school exploits. Majority of kids there have never known any school other than CFIS. French level in the student body is terrible, even if you ignore the mangled pronunciation and accent. Vocabulary, syntax, conjugation are all lacking. I’ve heard 12th Grade students who have been in that school since Kindergarten yet don’t even know basic words like ankle or twist.

This is an incredibly inspiring school for children to attend. With two very different children, both have been able to flourish and find joy in learning at this French immersion school. They have been challenged to think deeply about the world around them, experienced specialist art, music and physical education teachers. My children are articulate and incredibly attentive and respectful to their peers, teachers and school community. The school fosters and cultivates incredible citizens of the world. It is rated as the number one French Immersion and secondary school in the province, and supports each student to excel.

CFIS has been a wonderful school for my children. It is a school founded on academic excellence and the development of the whole student in a caring and supportive environment. It has been impressive to watch their skills in French and Spanish develop over years as well as their appreciation of the world around them.

Our two children attended CFIS for 12 years and it was one of the best decisions that we have made for a lot of reasons. Bullying is absolutely not allowed and measures are always taken to protect the children from bullying and keep them in a safe learning environment, which gives the parents peace of mind. The teachers and principal are wonderful and always willing to help and accommodate all the needs of the families. When we moved to Calgary we visited all the private schools in the area and CFIS was by far the best fit for our family. I would truly recommend CFIS to parents looking for a private school in Calgary.

CFIS is a great school. It ranges from Preschool up to grade 12 and the curriculum is very diverse. I have 2 children there and will likely send my 3rd one as well when he turns 3. The French learning - although not as intense intense as a fully French school - is great and the fact that they learn Spanish in grade 4 is even better. Class sizes are small (rarely above 20 students) and there is a lot of support from different learning specialists should the child need it. Highly recommend a visit if the occasion arises

CFIS is a really good school, people here saying that it is racist and sexist are naïve. The teachers have never encouraged racism and gender inequalities. I'm pretty sure that the parents that reviewed this was influenced so much by their 4 year old kid who told them: "my teacher is shaming on" They're just naïve parents

Okay, where do I begin...if you are thinking about sending your kids here, let me help you not waste anymore of your valuable time, just do it. This is an incredible school, with incredible staff. The love and support we have felt, from the minute we walked through the doors, is immense. My child picked up a tremendous amount of french, with a very beautiful accent--continuously sings his learned songs and has grown into an insightful, empathetic young man within the last year at CFIS. And the staff! My heart is so big and full even reflecting on how inspiring and beautiful the staff are at this school. Please, if anything, put CFIS at the top of your list to check out, I can almost guarantee you will not regret it.
