Watercolours by Bradley Curtis Bird Γ’€” a show in memory of his mother Doris Bird

Metis watercolour artist Bradley Curtis Bird has seen more and done more than many twice his 38 years. He lives his dreams. He believes his experiences help him paint with a sensitive and knowing eye.

Some of those experiences include his life as a journalist, in Winnipeg and Victoria and as a free lancer in North Africa and Zagreb. He’s also an experienced canoeist and trapper. For the past two winters Brad has made his winter living trapping in the Turtle Mountains southwest of Boissevain.

Bradley Curtis BirdBrad is the grandson of Dr. Frederick Valentine Bird who came to Boissevain to practices medicine in 1913. In his long career as physician for the area right into the 1970’s, Dr. Bird faced the flu epidemic of 1918-19, delivered more than 2000 babies, served as a councillor and mayor for about 16 years. He also was an avid hunter and fisher and organizer for local game and fish associations. Brad lives at Lake Metigoshe.

On May 20 at 7:30 Boissevain Library presents “An Evening of Good Memories” in which Brad will speak about his art, his grandfather Dr. Bird, and Brad’s own attachment to the Turtle Mountains.

“I am pleased to be able to present my paintings to you in the Boissevain & Morton Regional Library. This show is dedicated to the memory of my mother, Doris Bird (nee Aconley) who died in January. She always supported me even when I failed. I want to thank librarian Phyllis Hallett for offering me this opportunity.”

Bradley Bird, Lake Metigoshe, 747-2685.
