About Bethesda Regional Health Centre

In light of the complexity of heath care operations, an effective governance framework is necessary to function well in the boardroom. In addition to ongoing changes and operating mainly with the principles of Policy Governance® as a primary element (Governance Policy GP-1 Global Governance Commitment), the Southern Health-SantΓ© Sud model blends supplemental concepts deemed most appropriate in addressing the dynamic and changing nature of health care governance. This blended mix has led to combined aspects of an effective governance system.

The Policy Governance model starts with the acknowledgment that the Board’s existence and accountability is to ensure that ‘the organization works’. All authority resides with the Board, other than what is delegated to the Chief Executive Officer. Policy Governance embraces that the Boards’ primary relationships be with the public. Leadership is practiced in three modes of governance:

  • oversight (fiduciary)
  • foresight (strategic) and
  • insight (generative)

policiesThe Southern Health-SantΓ© Sud’s Board of Directors governs with a style which emphasizes:

  • consultation with the residents and health care providers in the regional health authority
  • acceptance of diversity in viewpoints
  • strategic leadership more than administrative detail
  • clear distinction of Board and staff roles collective rather than individual decisions and
  • being future oriented and proactive

Governance is not management, one step up. It is ownership, one step down.

they work so slow... we got here at 2pm and were sent to a room at 8pm and had to wait another hour and a half to a doctor to come by.

Probably the worst waiting times anywhere ever, they should already tell when you come in to the emergency you'll wait 8 hours, at least you could prepare for it, sitting there with a broken bone for 8 hours is nuts, and there were only a few patients in fron?

They deleted my original review, but 3 years ago I had waited all night to be seen. I ended up giving up and going home and decided to deal with the pain I was in. Not going here ever again.

Wow deleted my original post. But don't worry I'll repost because I remember every terrible detail. I went in for for a very serious personal reason and when I told the doctors I wanted to go the route with RCMP being involved she came back and said they were simply too busy. And she sent me to another hospital. A couple weeks later I met with RCMP and they said no one contacted them as if they had they would have had someone their asap. I contacted their compliants person, Jonathan Schmidtke and he assured me they were going to deal with it. But the last email I got was them saying they will call and deal with this and to no one's surprise they never called. I'll add the email below as proof Jonathan Schmidtke is as useless as they come. And I guess since we are on the topic of Jonathan Schmidtke, I had to contacted them AGAIN because I asked the nurse to take out my IV because it was burning and she got mad and walked out and for 45 minutes I waited and no one came and by that point I looked in the hallway and there was no one there. So I pulled out my iv and walked out. And what do you know no one contacted me back to go over what happened. Just a trash hospital. I can't believe people actually walk out of there alive.

Steinbach has one of the worst emergency centres, heaven forbid you have to step foot inside, they just don't care, you bloody have to wait for 6 hrs, their screen is wrong they have on display in the waiting room, save yourself some time and the headache and go to st.anne. Its a shame people have to pay for a broken system.

I was in and out of the hospital almost everyday because something was wrong with my stomach. They kept telling me that nothing is wrong but clearly there is something wrong when the WALMART CLINIC DOCTOR tells me otherwise -.- I've been treated and looked after by Walmart Clinic but it took me 5 months of going into the emergency due to pain and vomiting for a walk-in clinic to fully figure out what is going on. Just saying the hospital is a huge waste of time. Easier to go to the walk-in instead.

Was shocked at the poor triaging capabilities while there. Got there at 3pm ish, and wasn’t seen by a physician til almost 9pm ish. I was there for chest pain and shortness of breath and have a history of pulmonary embolism, and one other person was there moaning in the bathroom from a painful kidney stone and passing blood etc. a few others were there for things like UTI’s, needing a catheter replaced, a bruise, etc and yet myself and the gentlemen in tons of pain were virtually ignored for hours even though we were there earliest and arguably far more emergent than anyone else. Wait time was listed as β€œ2-3 hours” yet I waited 5-6 hours, and there were 3-5 people there during my waiting time. As someone that works in the healthcare system, I’m aware of how the triage system is supposed to work, and this was NOT it. After finally being seen, I was told that the doc on call β€œreally had no idea what to do with me” and β€œnext time I should just go to the city” (Winnipeg) and then lectured on how leaving because they had no ultrasound tech on after hours was potentially deadly - yet they had no problem with me sitting in the waiting room for hours on end. Was given a hard time just for asking basic questions. Not impressed at all.
