★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is my favourite place on Earth.
Unfortunately, the current owners of the resort/cantine and area are ruining the lake. If you come here, don't stay at their rental cabins as they don't get cleaned. Also, try not to use any of their services otherwise they might use the money to cut down more trees or put up more fences.
These people truly do not understand what the lake means to anyone and are almost wilful in their ignorance. Avoid them at all costs and you may still enjoy the lake before they cut the rest of the trees down to make more room for their 'compound' full of trash.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We have come to Barrier quite a few times and stayed in the duplex and have also stayed in the deluxe cabin, both of which have been great. Trina and Jason are very hospitable and accommodating. If theres something you need, just ask. We will definitely be back again!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rented the A frame cabin and it was pretty disappointing. Over $200 for the night and didn’t include pillows, blankets, towels, etc. If that’s how you choose to operate, that’s fine, but considering the cost. It seems ridiculous. There wasn’t even soap in the washroom.
It was very cold in there as well. Thermostat was around 18 (I think) and this was during the winter. Was -28 that night. And there was a lock box on it, so we couldn’t even adjust it.
I’m not one to complain, but I wish I would have looked around for other options. It is a very beautiful cabin though.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not family oriented anymore, not kid friendly-had an awesome playground near the duplex & deluxe cabin but it was torn out along with the trees & turned into a parking compound. Big fishing dock gone, fences everywhere. On top of that, prices went up!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rental cabins are nice and are modernized including a TV for your downtime but you have to bring your own bedding and toiletries. Stocking up on groceries and essentials is recommended before arriving as the food is bit pricey. Location is beautiful and the fishings usually pretty good

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I want to like this more, but I simply just can not. Ever since the new owners took over a few years ago everything has gone down hill.
The RM had to take over caring for the beach because the owners refused to do it. The portion sizes for food have reduced and prices have risen. They just don't take care of anything over bare minimum.
Even though we've been here visiting family every year for probably 20 years, things are just not that welcoming anymore.
The store is not open after 7pm, and everything is take out. Yes covid happened, but half the time this summer they couldn't be bothered to be open. Beyond disappointed.
We will continue to visit family, but have honestly just taken all our take out and ice cream business to Archerwill.

This place is amazing! The cabins are rustic, beautiful and so clean I could eat off the hardwood floors!
The staff are super friendly, and extend every courtesy to their guests and beyond. One of my favourite aspects is their boat rental service for quiet fishing or the pontoon boat for a lake cruise with good friends.
The food is really tasty and freshly made to order and reasonably priced.
Lastly, there is a tangible feel of camaraderie like you're part of the Barrier Lake family that you just don't get anywhere else.
This is perfect for families, couples, or groups of friends.....and is pet friendly. If you happen to have forgotten something, chances are the proprietors have anticipated that and carry it in their store.
I will definitely be a returning guest year over year.
You will not regret your choice to visit Barrier Lake Resort.
