★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tak has been incredible in fixing and tweaking my trumpets over the years. Bb, C, Eb, D, and piccolo have all been to him--and they're all easier to play and sounding better for it.
He specializes in releasing tension in the horn. Which makes a huge difference in the physical exertion it takes to play them.
Thank goodness for Tak.
He's saved my bacon a few times.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I've been using Backun barrels and bells on my Buffet R13 Bb and Eb clarinet for over 2 years. These products are of the highest quality and are beautiful to look at as well. Individuals are always commenting on how beautiful they look on my setup. It's not only about the appearance, but they sound great. If you're looking for a way to help you project your sound and give it more presence, these will really help. I was really amazed how much a bell can affect the sound and projection.
I really like the Eb barrel a lot. The cutout in the back allows me to use standard Bb reeds on my Eb mouthpiece (B44/M30). Sounds fuller than Eb reeds, and you don't have to trim the Bb reeds.
They give you a 14 day trial period which allows you to test them out the barrels/bells at rehearsals. Even though they're in Canada, you can return items to a US postal address.
I recommend that you try them out. You'd be surprised the difference Grenadilla vs. Cocobolo wood can make in the sound from a barrel.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I purchased a backun traditional clarinet barrel in August of last year, and though there was a bit of a wait as the piece cleared customs, it was certainly worth it. I noticed immediately that the flow over the break was much smoother than with the leblanc barrel that came with my horn (which is a leblanc noblet 45) and the sound was richer especially in the upper register. I LOVE this barrel, and totally freaked out when I noticed that it had a hairline crack in it. This during the busy Christmas music season!! I quickly contacted Backun and was assured that it would be covered under the two year warranty. I simply send photos of the cracks, and my original emails regarding the purchase. Just two days later I have received news that a new barrel is on the way. Nice people to work with.
