Current Office protocol of not answering the phone or not being able to leave a voicemail does not promote quality and timely health care services. Scenario: over the course of 2 days more than 70 phone calls were made by the patient and an external medical service provider also tried to assist in reaching the staff/Doctor to no avail. No one picked up the phone, no option to leave a voicemail and the message from the provider states do not come down in person (to the office) as the door is locked. If you have an urgent medical need, have questions because you were just diagnosed with cancer or you have a test result were the answer was “it’s good” and you want more details this is a substandard patient system. No ability to reach the doctor or his staff causes unnecessary stress to the patient. If private business acted this way to their customer they would be bankrupt. No service = no customer. Lest we not forget we are not ordering a sandwich here, this is an individuals health. Compassion, excellence, safety, quality, accountability and respect are all being missed here. If I could rate a zero I would. If the intent is to manage your workload, you are serving yourself. The focus is on the wrong individual(s) To respond to the owner reply: The days spent re-dialing your office, dozens of times during office hours, occurred a few months ago. It was the correct number, each time resulted in receiving your message identifying the office as open, and stating a message could not be left (the patient is told to re-dial again and again). After that, CAMIS also tried to contact your office to discuss a possible medical complication, and spent 2 days re-dialing. They did get through a couple of times, and were promised a call-back each time (the doctor was not in the office that day), which never occurred, and then they had to play the redial game again. The individual at CAMIS was almost in tears explaining this to me as she was also frustrated and distressed. The CAMIS procedure had to be rescheduled as a result of the non-contact. A recent attempt to contact your office, meeting with the same voice mail message, finally prompted this review. Patients are reluctant to complain because they desperately need the doctor's help, and don't want to jeopardize that help with a complaint. However, if you are not going to pick up the phone, why not allow a message to be left? It would be a lot more efficient and a lot less stressful on the patient. Otherwise, what message do you think this sends to the already-ill patient....."your time is not as valuable as my secretary's time, so you spend your day(s) redialing in frustration." Please consider this. Thankyou.
