About Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church
The cornerstone for the present location of the church was laid September 1955, by Most Rev. Neil Savaryn OSBM, Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton, under whose jurisdiction were the Ukrainian Catholics in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. In commemoration of the Marian Year of 1954, the church was named "Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary." By December of 1955 Divine Liturgies were being held in the completed basement of the church which had been constructed to serve as a parish hall and auditorium. On December 8, 1957, on the holy day of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, the name of the Ukrainian parish was formally changed from "St. Stephen's" to "Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary."

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I go to the church every Sunday and it’s not only a place where people can pray, but it is also a great place to meet Ukrainian people and learn about our culture, language, traditions and especially food, which is always awesome!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Attended the special mass on Sunday which had beautiful singing by the choir and was delivered half in Ukrainian and other half in English . The service was followed by a typical Ukrainian luncheon( usual nominal charge) that was well supported by the community. We enjoyed the event and would encourage others to partake in future events.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ They host an incredible Ukrainian perogy dinner every year, with a craft sale, frozen foods and a delicious hot meal for a very reasonable price. Yes, the lineups have gotten longer every year, but it's worth the wait. The church is beautiful, the volunteers are wonderful, and the atmosphere is festive and bright.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had a wedding, and 2 funeral services and mass service for both my grandparents at this church. Their church. It's lovely and even during covid everyone had space since it was just immediate family there. Everyone is nice and it's really big inside. Very beautiful artwork inside.
