Built in 1929 by Oswald and Ernest Gusdal, previously known as the Wigwam Restaurant, 1929 Dining and Lounge was the first commercial building to be built in this area.

When first open as a business it operated 24 hours a day, acting as a commissary and hall for work camps in the area. Throughout the years it also substituted as a dance hall, church, meeting hall, and barracks.

Architecturally, it was built in the Tudor Rustic style, featuring an intricate hipped ceiling, horizontal split-log siding, and central dormer.

In 1992, the building was designated as a Provincial Heritage Site and has been undergoing extensive renovations and restoration work since 1993.

Now in its 9th decade, 1929 Dining and Lounge still serves up locally inspired menu items and liquid libations, remaining a friendly meeting place for all.

We did have a reservation (which I recommend as it is very busy )and the staff were very polite and sat us quickly. You could tell they were very busy. After asking for our appetizers first and three chicken finger meals as fast as possible we did still wait 45 min for our appetizers and kids meals, with our main dishes arriving 10 min later. We were very pleased with our appetizer dip and dry ribs

We ordered the Outrageous Nachos as an appetizer and it was almost more than we needed. Tried the Ribeye steak and it was excellent. Restaurant is seasonal (at least in 2021) and not open in the fall and winter months. We cannot wait to return in the future.

S	Scott on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The food was good. I ordered pickup and the wait was pretty long but it was also 36 degrees outside and just about thr same in the restaurant that day. This is a HALF order of nachos. I will state that it was extremely busy when I went and they made me the wrong type of nachos. (Cheeseburger instead of the OG nachos) I decided not to deduct a star because they were still so good. If you get take out I suggest getting to your location ASAP because they get soggy if they sit in thr container too long.

Sides were upgraded to sweet potato and onion rings which were deep fried to perfection. Service is helpful and polite but very slow due to how busy they are. Overall, it’s worth the wait!

The burgers and wings are also very solid, and the wait staff are fantastic. (Only wish they had more than one brand of cider available, but they have a good selection of beer!)
